CIS, the Interport and the Vulcano Buono Service Centre are three closely linked facilities (which bring together approximately 1,000 companies): they work together in close synergy and each has a specific task. CIS deals with distribution, the Interport with logistics and intermodal freight facilities and services and Vulcano with retail sales and services.
Nola Interporto
Nola Interport was opened in 1999 and is the biggest national interport in central and southern Italy. The sorting facilities and combination of different types of freight transport (by air, by rail, by sea or road-based) means different types of goods are shipped and sorted here. This 3,000,000 sq.m. facility has approximately 500,000 sq.m. of warehouses, used by about 200 international logistics companies, shipping companies and courier companies, as well as distributors and loading platform operators. The main ports of central and southern Italy (Taranto, Naples, and Salerno) are connected by rail to the interport. It is the only Interport in Italy to have a totally electric internal railway system, with 13 rails which are part of the national rail system. The heart of the interport is the intermodal freight facility, with the 250,000 sq.m. Intermodal Terminal. There is a Customs Office which can deal with all customs-related issues and a cold storage facility (100,000 sq.m. of refrigerated rooms, with temperatures ranging from 0 to – 30ºC).
Vulcano Buono Service Centre
The Service Centre was designed by the architect Renzo Piano and is one of the biggest Service Centres in Italy. Vulcano Buono is built on a 450,000 sq.m. area, with a 40 metre-high building and 150,000 sq.m. in the building (or covered in some way). It attracts hundreds of people because it offers so many services, including leisure activities. There is a shopping centre with 160 points of sale, an Auchan hyperstore, a 4-star hotel with 158 rooms, a Warner Village multi-screen cinema (9 screens, approximately 2,000 seats), bars and eateries, parking space for 8,000 vehicles
